First Guzhang terraced field cole flower festival kicks off

Mar Thu 2024
The first terraced field cole flower festival opened in Yanpaixi Village, Gaofeng Town, Guzhang County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture on March 19, with the 38,000-mu (about 2533.33 hectares) terraced fields of cole flowers in full bloom. The festival will continue until March 31.

The festival kicked off with a Miao ethnic drum dance performance. Besides, various programs were staged, such as folk cultural performances, dances, intangible cultural heritage performances, and a cheongsam show, attracting ten thousand tourists.

On the field ridges, tourists took photos of their families and friends. It is the perfect season for spring outings in March, and people bask in the warm spring sunshine in the countryside.

Guzhang County has implemented the construction of high-standard farmland and coordinated the development of urban and rural tourism to inject new momentum into rural revitalization.

“The festival, based on the unique agricultural tourism resources of cole flowers, aims to inherit and promote the agricultural culture nurtured by ancient terraced fields, and transform ecological advantages into economic development advantages through the integration of agriculture and tourism,” said Teng Chaohui, Party secretary of Guzhang County.

Yanpaixi Village can be comparable to the famous Yuanyang terraced fields in Yunnan Province in terms of cultural, aesthetic, water conservancy, and scientific value and significance.

Nowadays, Gaofeng Town is integrating intangible cultural heritage items such as the popular Nuoyan Opera with rural revitalization to promote both the government policies and traditional culture.
